CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines—Samar State University (SSU) hits its highest global ranking to date in the January 2026 Edition of the Webometrics Global Web Rankings for Universities with a remarkable leap from 29,073rd to 3,620th worldwide. In this latest edition, SSU also retained second in Eastern Visayas and 61st in the Philippines.
The Webometrics ranking system evaluates universities based on a combination of indicators including impact and visibility through external networks linking to the university’s webpages, openness via the number of top-cited researchers affiliated with the institution, and excellence through the number of highly cited academic publications. In this edition, SSU records 31556 in Impact rank, 6428 in Openness rank, and 6650 in Excellence rank.
In previous editions, the University has been consistently improving both its impact and world ranks, and with relatively fair consistency in its openness and excellence ranks.
SSU’s continued inclusion among the top 100 Philippine universities and high placement among global universities in Webometrics underscores the institution’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its digital presence and research impact.
