SSU, EVSU forge partnership for academic, research collabs

TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines—Samar State University (SSU) and Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) formally entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen collaboration in research, education, and community engagement. The partnership was officially sealed yesterday, September 29, through the signing of the MOU by SSU President Dr. Redentor S. Palencia and EVSU President Dr. Dennis C. De Paz.

The agreement highlights the universities’ commitment to advancing institutional capacities, faculty development, and joint research initiatives. Both institutions agreed to cooperate in areas such as capacity building, infrastructure sharing, knowledge management, research technologies, and academic ownership of intellectual property rights.

Witnesses to the signing included key university officials: Engr. Mirador G. Labrador, Vice President for Research and Extension Services (SSU); Maria Rubi M. Parrocho, MPM, Director of the Research Center for Culture and Social Issues (SSU); Reynalyn O. Barbosa, CPA, MM, Head of BHM Department, EVSU-Tanauan Campus; Dr. Sheldon Ives G. Agaton, J.D., EVSU-Tanauan Campus Director; Dr. Analyn C. Español, Vice President for Students, Internationalization and External Affairs (EVSU); and Mia Gretz A. Ramirez, MBA, CGSP, Director for External Affairs (EVSU).

According to the signed agreement, the partnership will foster joint programs such as seminars, workshops, training, and research publications. It also opens opportunities for collaborative use of facilities, resources, and technology tools, alongside the creation of partnerships and alliances that will benefit both institutions.

Through this strategic alliance, SSU and EVSU envision a strengthened culture of research and extension, reinforcing their shared mission of contributing to regional and national development by advancing knowledge, innovation, and community service.
