CATBALOGAN CITY, Philippines—Samar State University (SSU) welcomed international perspectives in the DIU Faculty Exchange Lecture Series 2025 with the theme “Beyond Borders: Enriching the Minds of Tradesmen”, a collaborative event that brought together students from all colleges for a day of engaging discussions on English language and global readiness.
Opening the program on behalf of SSU President Dr. Redentor S. Palencia, Vice President for Research and Extension Services Engr. Mirador G. Labrador underscored the value of academic sharing in strengthening institutional missions.
“Samar State University believes that through academic sharing, we can fulfill our missions in our respective universities. Let us delve into the new learnings that this activity will mark,” Engr. Labrador remarked.
The lecture series featured resource speakers from Daffodil International University (DIU), Bangladesh. Asst. Prof. Tahsina Yasmin of DIU’s Department of English led an interactive session on “Negotiation Skills.” Through dynamic activities and role plays, she guided SSU students in discovering effective techniques for building rapport, dealing with situations, and achieving win-win outcomes in navigating daily life.
Following her session, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ehatasham Ul Hoque Eiten, Head of the Department of English at DIU, delivered a lecture on “How to Be Fluent in English and Strategies for IELTS.” He introduced practical approaches to mastering English fluency, from structured practice to confidence-building exercises, while also outlining tips for success in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).
Students expressed appreciation for the dynamic activities and insightful discussions, and voiced how the lectures expanded their perspectives. Also present during the activity were Dr. Elmer Irene, Director for SSU’s Office of International Affairs, and selected Language Teaching faculty members of the university.
This activity forms part of the ongoing partnership between SSU and DIU, which continues to promote international academic exchanges and collaboration. In previous years, SSU has also participated in faculty exchange programs with other international partner institutions.
